The Panthropic
It's the name of this Substack, and one of my core ideas.
Welcome to The Panthropic
I coined the term in a book I wrote, Quiver, don’t Quake. “The Panthropic” is what I see as a compression of all human knowledge and creativity: the collective conscious, made interactive and articulate. I frame AI as an Allied Intelligence and the creative partnership it enables as Collaborative Creativity. The idea is central to most things I write.
I’m a consumer psychologist by training, a serial founder, and an author. My two books, Quiver, don’t Quake: How Creativity Can Embrace AI and Shimmer, don’t Shake: How Publishing Can Embrace AI, are both published by Mensch Publishing. I write a monthly column for The Bookseller and various other articles. I run Shimmr AI, where we build autonomous advertising for book publishers and we’ve created decision intelligence for marketing at scale.
Before that, I founded ProQuo AI (an AI-powered brand management platform), Inish Turk Beg (a global award-winning whiskey, food and music brand built from scratch on an island off the west coast of Ireland), and Sadek Wynberg Research (which became the world’s largest qualitative research agency, before I sold it to WPP and helped to run two of their global networks, Millward Brown and Research International). I grew up across three continents and studied psychology at Trinity College Dublin.
Psychology is the spine of my intellectual activity.
My ‘authorial footprint’ is odd. I’m writing Rides – the Marques & Minds of Motorcycling (published in 2027 by Veloce). And my first collection of 10 children’s stories, The Farlands Adventures, is being illustrated (for publication by Wonder House in 2027)
This Substack is the place where you’ll find essays on Creativity, Allied Intelligence, Advertising, Marketing, the occasional thought about philosophy, motorcycles, islands, what it means to build things, and sometimes an aphorism.
The Panthropic is the idea I keep returning to: that AI’s real promise is to bring every human closer to the full breadth of what humanity has thought, felt and made - not as spectators but instead as originators. I believe AI emancipates and democratises global creativity in all 8 billion of us who live on Earth.
